The members of the Pine Crest International Relations Club have been participating in Model United Nations for the past 23 years. For the past six years, the club has also sponsored a Model UN here at the Institute for Civic Involvement. This Model UN was initially proposed as a method of introducing the freshman at Pine Crest to the structure and rules of the United Nations, however, the conference has grown over the past three years to encompass over 100 high school students from four different schools in Broward county. While we are both surprised and grateful for the success of PCMUN, we are also aware that the expansion of the conference to include upper-classmen and experienced Model UN delegates has made participation a rather intimidating prospect for freshman.
In consideration of this, the International relations Club has prepared a three day in-class simulation for the freshman and sophomores at Pine Crest . . .
AND YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND!

This simulation will recreate the League of Nations--forerunner to the modern United Nations--during the crisis years of 1934-1937, and will allow the US History and World Civ II students the opportunity to practice their research, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills in a historical setting. The PC Model League of Nations will be run entirely by the members of the International Relations Club, and, while many educational enrichment opportunities will be presented to the student-delegates, grading will be entirely at your discretion. The major purposes of this simulation are:
to introduce students to the fascinating realities and complexities of international relations through simulations of international organizations
to demonstrate the potential and limitations of the United Nations in the resolution of global conflicts and problems.
to allow the students to participate in living historical situations and recognize the fact that they, too, are a part of history.
and, of course, to meet, work with, and socialize with other students in both cooperative and competitive situations.
The Pine Crest International Relations Club is excited to present the Fourth Annual Pine Crest Model League of Nations and we hope to see YOU there!!

SCHEDULE:
WEDNESDAY, MAY 20
A representative of the Pine Crest International Relations Club will visit your class to
explain the purpose and activities of the IRC, and will describe the various Model United
Nations which the IRC has participated in over the past several years. This representative
will also explain the history and structure of the League of Nations, as well as the rules
of order which will govern debate and resolution-writing at the Pine Crest Model League of
Nations. A short video will then be shown to illustrate the historical era in which this
Model League of Nations will operate. Students will then hand in their country choices for
the Assembly on Friday.
THURSDAY, MAY 21
Students participating in the Model League of Nations will report to the Upper School
Library, where they will recieve their country assignments. Student-delegates may then do
research and collect information for the purpose of writing a position paper. This paper

League, and will represent the student-delegates best interpretation of the stand
which the assigned country would have taken in the same historical circumstance.
FRIDAY, MAY 22
All student-delegates will report to the ICI Lecture Hall. The Assembly of the League of
Nations will be called to order by the Secretary-General or other representative of the
Pine Crest International Relations Club. Debate will begin on the resolution of the
historical issues presented on Wednesday. All debate will be governed by Roberts
Rules of Order. All delegates are expected to be polite, considerate, and to remember that
the goal of this meeting is to resolve disputes which threaten world peace, and to have
FUN!
