Rousting the teams at dawn, Mr. Trump and Ivanka welcomed them to Week 2 of their 14 week job interview on the bluffs above Santa Monica Beach. A tie-less Trump, getting all California casual, assigned them the task of creating and manufacturing a line of swimsuits for design legend Trina Turk and staging a fashion show for her buyers. And Trump seemed to be feeling the anything goes, left coast vibe as he offered up the most unique reward yet. This time, the entire winning team would not have to participate in a task the following week; they would all be exempt! The members of Arrow were especially eager to win and escape the squalid life in the tents, a place Carey called "Trump Trailer Park." Under Trump's new guidelines, Heidi, the winning PM on the previous task, would maintain the helm of Kinetic. Meanwhile, Nicole stepped up as project manager for Arrow. Arrow's Carey jumped right into the task, saying he'd always dreamed of designing a swimsuit line. He started sketching immediately. The openly gay candidate showed real flair, but the tight male trunks he designed struck most of his colleagues as too risqué. He forcefully pushed for his designs and the team seemed to follow his lead. The only open friction came as Michelle refused to weigh in on what the price point should be, choosing to defer to those who researched this area. Over at Kinetic, designer Marisa and Heidi butted heads over their suits, with the project manager saying Marisa's designs were "too Ralph Lauren," and not nearly young and fun enough to mesh with Trina's style. But after strongly making her point, Heidi deferred to her designer. While Trump went barefoot to the swimwear fashion show on Santa Monica beach, there was much more skin being revealed on the catwalk. In addition to the bikini clad models strutting their stuff, Arrow's Nicole and Carey also braved the catwalk in barely-there bathing suits. Not surprisingly, Carey chose to model his own controversial, form-hugging pink trunks, which caused Muna to joke that she thought Carey's suit imparted "too much information." Even openly gay candidate Derek was taken aback. "The guy looked good, but they needed to get a fire extinguisher on the runway because Carey flamed it up," he laughed. All that remained was to see if Arrow's collection heated up sales or crashed and burned. So, when Trina Turk herself announced the sales results, whose bottom line looked better? Kinetic, as it turned out, which bested Arrow in sales by $20,111 to $19,618. And Trina ascribed the margin of victory to Arrow's puny men's sales of less than $400.Kinetic's reward was a trip to the Playboy Mansion for a pool party with Hugh Hefner and a gaggle of his gorgeous Playmates. That's where Trump's pal Hef introduced the victors to his three girlfriends, Bridget, Holly and Kendra. Kinetic's Kristine seemed impressed: "Hef can have whatever he wants and he's chosen to have three girlfriends…he's a lucky man." Far less fortunate were the members of Arrow, hunkering around their tents in Trump's backyard. Here's how Frank summarized it: "Playboy mansion vs. cold backyard…it really sucks." And it would only get worse. Next week, Arrow would be the only ones participating in a task. |
