The Arabs

Fictional Character based on Ibn Fadlan, a real life citizen of Baghdad  and author of the Risala, the most complete description of the Vikings by a contemporary outsider.  The Risala describes Ibn Fadlan's  travels up the Volga River in A.D.922, where he met a group of people he called the Rus.  Rus is an eastern Norse word which seems to have refered to Swedish Vikings who traveled and traded along the Russian rivers. Ibn Fadlan's description portrayed them as an unkempt, violent, and sexually aggressive people who staged an elaborate burial for him when he died.
