In the suite, candidates from both teams gathered around to discuss what had
just happened down in the boardroom. Chris and John recounted how they had
each told Trump that Audrey was the weakest person on their team. John
believed that Net Worth (Street Smarts) would be better off without her. But
just then, the front door of the suite opened and Audrey entered, along with
Craig. Audrey walked right past the group without saying a word. Kendra said
that Audrey looked as if she felt abandoned by her team. In a whispered
interview, Audrey said that it really hurt when the others call her a "weak
link." She said that being treated as incompetent made her sick to her
stomach. Angie declared her team "completely dysfunctional," "completely
crippled" and "out of control."
Later
that night, Angie talked with Audrey out on the balcony. When Chris came
out, Audrey laid into him and said defiantly that she did not come to New
York to be treated as a child. Then, with emotion building, Audrey revealed
painful memories as she told Chris that her parents both went to prison and
her childhood was taken from her. As she held back tears, she said that
everything was taken from her. Audrey revealed that when she was seventeen
she was homeless and lived out of a car. She declared that she could have
taken the easy way out and married rich, but she wanted to earn her way to
success through work. She said that she may be beautiful, but even that
tormented her as a child. She said that other girls hated her because of her
beauty. And she admitted that she had wanted to scar herself so the other
girls would stop hating her. John came out and things only got more heated.
Audrey accused John of claiming that he was better than her. She told John
that she couldn't care less what he had to say and told him to shut up.
John's attempt to butter Audrey up with a complement backfired. He said that
Audrey would make more money than anyone else in the suite because she was
"gorgeous" and a "sweetheart." Audrey took that as an insult to her
intellect. She cursed John out and stormed off. In an interview, John
claimed that Audrey was too immature to work with. He suggested that she
come back in ten years when she might be ready.
The
next day, the candidates met with Donald, Carolyn and Ashley Cooper, the
chairman of Trump's golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, who would be
filling in for George for the week. Trump told the candidates that he loves
golf and building golf courses - and now the teams would get the chance to
build their own golf courses too… miniature golf courses to be exact. They
would each build a course on the Chelsea Piers and manage the business for
one day. The team that made the most money would win. The losing team would
return to the boardroom where someone would be fired.
When
Net Worth sat down to discuss who would be their Project Manager, Audrey
volunteered. But with Carolyn observing, John spoke up and said that he
wanted the person with the least personal problems to lead… and he said that
was Chris. John laid his cards on the table and said that he didn't feel
comfortable with Audrey leading the task - especially after she cursed at
him and walked away the other day. But Audrey didn't back down. She said
that she wasn't going to address personal issues and wanted to focus on
business. Audrey said she was willing to step up and take responsibility and
become Project Manager. She said that she would bring the best out of each
person on her team. After her impassioned speech, the team voted. Craig and
Angie got behind Audrey -- and even John came around. "You sold me," he told
her. The rest of the team voted "yes" and Audrey became Project Manager by
unanimous decision. For her first act as leader of her team, Audrey assigned
each candidate an area of responsibility and said that each person would be
in charge of managing their own work. Craig was assigned marketing. Chris
headed up golf course design. And John was in charge of promotions.
Magna
(Book Smarts) arrived at the Chelsea Piers with Stephanie at the helm as
Project Manager. Stephanie pitched a Safari theme for their miniature golf
course and the rest of the group was on board. Next, Stephanie turned her
attention to the course itself. She sent a group to buy as many plants as
they could to transform their empty space into a jungle. In an interview,
Kendra wondered if Stephanie understood the "extreme importance" of the
marketing aspect of the task. Kendra felt the task would be won or lost on
marketing. She came up with the idea to target all of the kids who had
lessons around the pier. So Magna offered discounts to patrons of local
businesses that catered to kids, like the nearby ice skating rink. Kendra
also made sure the cross-promotional marketing was exclusive. She happily
reported that they were effectively "cutting off Net Worth at the knees"
because they couldn't market with those same businesses.
That
night, Audrey ran into her first big conflict as Project Manager. Chris
called and asked if he, Craig and John should hand out fliers promoting
their miniature golf course or start assembling the course. Audrey responded
that John needed to make that decision based on what he had to accomplish
with promotions. This drew a chuckle from John. In an interview, John
claimed that Audrey had made one decision as Project Manager: to make no
decisions, thus shielding herself from blame if the team were to lose. Craig
took the phone and repeated the question. He asked Audrey what she wanted
them to do. Audrey ordered everyone back to their main location - it was
time for a meeting. In an interview, Craig didn't seem happy about having to
return for the meeting. He said that the three men were getting things done
and a meeting would just bring a halt to all of their progress. Once the
full team was back together, Audrey asked everyone for a list of what they'd
accomplished and a timeline for their day. John challenged Audrey, calling
the assignment a waste of time. He said they should focus on what they
needed to do, not what they'd already done. Then John accused Audrey of
trying to set him up like some sort of scapegoat to build a case that he
hadn't handled promotions properly. Audrey said that she was doing no such
thing. Angie took Audrey's side telling John that he was not being set up,
but John didn't seem so sure.
Early
the next morning, Magna assembled their Safari-themed course. Stephanie said
that everyone on the team was in "full hustle mode." Net Worth had their own
kid-friendly theme: the circus. Everyone dressed up as clowns, but not all
were happy clowns. Chris wasn't thrilled with the costume. John refused to
wear his and when Audrey asked him to, he called her an "idiot." He said the
team would win whether or not he wore a costume. In an interview, Audrey
promised that John would wear his outfit, and ultimately John did - right
down to the makeup and big red nose. Chris however, had an addition that
most clowns didn't: a wad of chewing tobacco in his mouth. Several people
noticed, including Carolyn.
After
a full day of manning the course, the candidates, sans clown outfits,
arrived at the boardroom. Ashley announced that Net Worth made $304 during
the task. But Carolyn said that Magna brought in $508 - making Magna the
winner! Carolyn attributed the large total to the flyers and coupons the
team had distributed. For their reward the team would accompany Donald to
Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey and play golf with one of
the game's top athletes, Cristie Kerr.
At
the suite, Stephanie and Angie whispered secretly in the bathroom. Angie
focused on promotions as the team's downfall and Audrey said that the area
was John's responsibility. In an interview, John predicted that Audrey would
bring him into the boardroom - but he called that a "huge mistake" and
promised to "bury her." He said that even if both Angie and Audrey ganged up
on him, he would survive.
At
Trump National Golf Club, the candidates of Magna arrived by limo while
Trump took another form of transportation: his helicopter. Erin, who said
she didn't play golf, wasn't able to hit the ball terribly far. Trump
diplomatically said she had "a delicate swing." Later, The Donald almost had
to pay up $1,000 on a bet when Bren nearly made a difficult shot. Regardless
of their golfing abilities, everyone had a great time.
